METAMORPHOSIS: Paintings in Cultural Code

In "METAMORPHOSIS: Paintings in Cultural Code," I explore the origins of world misogyny through myth, religion, art, science, and story.

I paint around five historical moments where an event (war, plague, invasion, new king or technology) disrupted the existing cultural order, imposing new cultural codes upon women and girls.

As a girl I had the joy of being raised by two mothers—one from the West, one from the East. I see how each mother guided me toward womanhood, given her cultural take of it. How could two patriarchies, East and West, so physically isolated from each other, imagine the same misogynistic views of girls and women—for millennial.
