Paintings of a Red Forest

When Fukushima blew in March, 2011, it tore me apart. I wondered: where is the closest nuclear reactor to me?

How many reactors do we have in the US and the rest of the world—and are they safe?

The radiated land surrounding the destroyed Chernobyl reactor is now the "Zone of Alienation" where no one can enter without government permission. No human can safely live there, or farm or hunt or eat animals.

The Red Forest will be uninhabitable for unknown generations to come. Rather than narrate this exhibition myself, I look to the Chernobyl inhabitants who speak their truth in "Voices of Chernobyl" by Svetlana Alexievich.
