Mythology
Sumerian Dreaming

This year I bring you paintings of the Sumerians—our gifted human ancestors who settled in Southern Iraq in the mid-fourth millennium B.C.E.—and turned a 10,000 square-mile patch of hot, dry, mineral-less earth into a Garden of Eden.
The Sumerians created our first cities, governments, laws, religious deities, gender and ethical ideals—they also invented the first writing system (Cuneiform).
In this exhibition, I've woven three threads: Sumerian Myths, the life cycle of the Goddess Inanna, and "Girl in the Window" — celebrating the many millennia where women have been confined to the "women's quarters."
